Let me start this off by saying I love Clipse They are one of my favorite rap groups and when I met the group, I found Malice much friendly than Pusha All of this being said, this book is pretty bad It comes as no surprise that the publishing company who put it out is Clipse affiliated. The book is like a sandwich with horrendous bread but OK meat The two ends of the book Malice s preaching, essentially, about how God and Jesus Christ saved him from a meaningless life of temptation are tough to get through The middle of the book, which describes Malice s life on the road and being a rap star, is not that bad, which is why I threw an extra star on the rating It also gives the reader a glimpse into the future of Clipse and some context of past Clipse hits.Outside of the sub par writing, the editing is awful Typo after typo, incorrect phrasing, insults to syntax It really detracted from the story.I don t begrudge Malice his happiness which he has clearly found in God and Christianity What I take exception to is the poor writing and preachiness of the book.

Great book, I was really surprised to read how much spiritual devotion one of my favorite rappers has I wanted to read about the journey of the music and how The Clipse came to be but still an enjoyable read.

Extremely mild spoilers below Given I didn t grow up listening to hip hop, I still want to kick myself a few times a month when I stumble across artists and groups that everybody seems to have already known about but me Even worse is when I find out that said groups only recently broke up, and i m left a day late a buck short Back in 2009, when I was still wearing leather jackets, dying my hair, and listening to Kanye West almost contradictingly, IVYbetty, along with Kevin Nottingham, and Fred Hart all entities I ve never heard of before released a mixtape that was nothing short of brilliant It was called Graduation The Musical and it collected and mixed songs off of The College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, and 808 s and Heartbreak with their respective samples and even some audio tracks from interviews about the Taylor Swift fiasco It s been one of the handful of albums I never stopped listening to steadily, almost on a weekly basis since it s been released because it s just THAT good unfortunately it s been taken off the net in the past couple years otherwise I d include a link Anyway, i ve been listening to it for so long that I recently decided to explore some of the verses featured on the tracks that didn t come from the original songs, and that s how I found out about Clipse I really like Pusha T as well so I really had to laugh at myself for being ignorant about his group that he founded with his older brother, Malice So naturally, the past three or four weeks of my life have been spent listening to and getting down with the We Got It 4 Cheap mixtapes, and I even got the chance to blast Clipse while riding through North Philly, where some of their crew hails from If you like hip hop and haven t had the chance to familiarize yourself with Clipse it s about time you did, although you probably wouldn t be reading this Enough about the personal details, let me give my review Gene Elliot Thornton Jr aka Malice extends his ability to write beyond rhymes to create his first book memoir all about his life s highest and lowest moments, and if you re truly interested in his story, you ll be pleased find he delivers There s a lot of interesting information to be read about in the 150 pages he provides, but the major theme throughout his story is faith Faced with the possibility of having contracted HIV in the first couple chapters, Malice finds god and it quickly becomes his mission to help you find him as well It gets very preachy not my favorite thing about the book but if you put aside all the god stuff there are some real lessons to be learned from his story Like I said, I wasn t even aware Pusha T had a brother or a rap group until a few weeks ago, so I was learning about Malice completely from scratch When he comes to find himself showing symptoms of HIV AIDS again in the later half of the book I was compelled to continue on without stopping because I didn t know if he made it or not All in all I give Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind And Naked 3 5 stars I enjoy watching anyone travel outside their zone of comfort and i d say Malice did it pretty successfully It s his story so he gets to put whatever kind of spin on it he wants, and I respect that I recommend this to anyone who enjoys hip hop has interest in learning about the different players in the game.
